Let Us Not Tire of Love

Romero was a man that sought justice for the disenfranchised until his final days here on earth. In the book Oscar Romero by Marie Dennis, Renny Golden, and Scott Wright, the first chapter of the book closes out with statement by Romero after he had been cautioned to be more diplomatic, more accommodating, less upsetting:
“Some want to keep a Gospel so disembodied that it doesn’t get involved at all in the world it must save. Christ is now in history. Christ is in the womb of the people. Christ is now bringing about a new heaven and a new earth.” The authors close the chapter by saying, “Oscar Romero lived and died an authentic Christian who laid down his life out of love for the poor.”

Let us not tire of preaching LOVE, it is the force that will overcome the world.

I cannot get those words out of my spirit this week. I have always preached that we should love the world like Jesus. We have songs about love! The Beatles preached it in their songs. Jackie DeShannon made the phrase even more famous with her song “What the World Needs Now is Love, Sweet Love.”

I have no words, except to think about how I can show love, how I can stand up for the disenfranchised like Romero did during his lifetime.

Enjoy the song!
